Saris, Sultans & Shophouses:
Chinatown and Kampong Glam Tour

Chinatown and Kampong Glam

Singapore’s dynamic ethnic neighbourhoods with enduring traditions showcase a vibrant past, but also thrive on reinvention. Discover history, heritage, art and architecture as your guide walks you through narrow lanes, awakening your senses with the scents, colours, sounds and flavours on display around these historic neighbourhoods. Our 2 or 3 hour ‘Saris, Sultans and shophouses’ tour takes you to two of our three ethnic quarters.

In Chinatown you will stroll down the original shoreline where early migrants first landed on Singapore soil. Admire the gorgeous architecture of the oldest existing Chinese temple in the country. Hear about experiences of the early migrants, and what life was like living and working within the shophouses, as you stroll through these. Visualise what the street scenes of yesteryear were like by admiring the intricate details of the wall murals that are created to look 3-dimensional.

Next, take the train to Kampong Glam. The train fare is easily paid by tapping your credit card (Visa/Mastercard only) against the card reader at the gantries in the station. (Foreign-issued credit cards are accepted.)

Wander through the streets & alleys of Kampong Glam, the former royal & Arab Quarter, to discover the history & heritage of the precinct, as well as the culture of the indigenous Malay people. We will also discuss the impacts of gentrification upon this neighbourhood. Kampong Glam today is the vibrant heart of the street art movement in Singapore, and large street art pieces may be viewed as you explore the buzzing side lanes.
