Singapore Welcomes You
Price: S$75/ ticket

Welcome to Singapore! This tour will give you an overview of our history and heritage and is ideal for visitors and newly-arrived residents.

We will first explore the historic Civic District, with its impressive colonial-era buildings, all of which formerly played a role in our island’s early government and community. These include the elegant St. Andrew’s Cathedral, the majestic National Gallery, the Neo-Palladian Asian Civilisations Museum, the beautiful Victoria Concert Hall & Theatre, and our oldest building, the Arts House, dating back to 1827.

Learn why and how Sir Stamford Raffles arrived in this sparsely-populated island in January 1819 to set up a trading post on behalf of the East India Company. Explore his vision for its future and how he devised an early city plan.

You will also cross Cavenagh Bridge, our only suspension bridge, as you discover the importance of the Singapore River in our country's trading history. Then it's on to the Fullerton Building, our former General Post Office, now a luxury hotel.

From there we will walk along part of buzzy Boat Quay and into the Telok Ayer (meaning water bay in Malay) area of Chinatown where simple shrines facing the sea were built in the early days for newly arrived migrant workers to give thanks for their safe arrival. These have been replaced by magnificent temples, to which we will pay a visit.

Our tour will continue with a stroll through the delightful Ann Siang area — a nutmeg and clove estate in earlier times — and we will finish at the URA Centre to see the impressive 3D models of Singapore and learn about 21st-century urban planning, Singapore style!
