Tuesday Walk:Telok Ayer, Where Gods & Goddesses Reside - 6 Aug
Price: : $75/ticket
This tour will explore the historic coast-line of Chinatown to explore the traditions, customs and religions brought here by large numbers of merchants, traders and coolies.
You will start on the south bank of the Singapore River and walk along Chulia Street, the former enclave of South Indian Chettiars. On the way to Telok Ayer Street you will learn more about the great diversity of the Chinese community in mid-19th century Singapore, and the spirit of mutual assistance as provided by the Clan Associations.
You will visit UNESCO awarded Yueh Hai Ching and Thian Hock Keng temples – great examples of SEA temple architecture - where you will meet gods and goddesses and learn about Chinese religions and symbolism.
You will discover that Chinatown was not only a Chinese enclave by visiting one of the oldest Indian Muslim mosques. While admiring the beautiful facades of shophouses, you will climb to the highest point of Chinatown, Ann Siang Hill, before rounding our tour off at the URA (Urban Redevelopment Authority) with its very informative City Gallery.
Please note confirmation of this tour includes the exact meeting place and will be sent by email to all those registered about 24 hours in advance; this will be preceded by a Peatix message to all registered.

“I particularly love the Tuesday walks exploring the different distinct areas of Singapore...including Tiong Bahru, Kampong Glam, Geylang and The Botanic Gardens to name a few. Jane and her team are knowledgeable without being over -facing; interesting in the telling of local stories and fun to be with. “
