Escape to Emily Hill, a little gem of a historical house tucked away amidst the lush greenery in and around Mount Emily, one of Singapore's few remaining hills.

Dating from the late 1800s, this pretty villa is the oldest on Mount Emily and the adjacent Mount Sophia. It was built as a grand residence which had not just a “beautiful view over the town and the harbour,” but also came with “2 tennis courts and stables for 5 horses and 4 carriages.” It has been put to a variety of uses over its time, including as the Japanese Consul-General’s offices before WWII.

These days it's a centre for the Arts, with the fun and funky Kult Kafe in residence providing refreshments.

The villa is the perfect magical setting for our India-inspired evening! Jane’s guests will sip cocktails (or mocktails) informed by rich Indian flavours, snack on a bespoke Indian-themed canape menu, and sit back, relax and be entertained with the sights and sounds of Indian music and dance under the starry night sky.

Ticket prices include entry to Kult Kafe, a signature welcome cocktail (or mocktail), and a choice of a glass of wine or craft beer (or soft drink if purchasing the non-alcoholic option), plus curated menu of Indian-inspired "chaat," delicious savory snacks.

A night of musical theatre fun — Souvenir: A Fantasia on the Life of Florence Foster Jenkins

Price:

$70/pax

Description:

The best kind of gift to yourself is the gift of theatre and culture. SOUVENIR is a musical based on the true story of Florence Foster Jenkins, a New York socialite who dreamed of becoming an opera singer despite having a terrible singing voice. The drama-comedy stars the beloved Singapore thespian and funny man Hossan Leong as Cosme McMoon and West End actress Leigh McDonald as Florence Foster Jenkins.

A film version of the story starring Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant made the rounds of the world’s movie theatres in 2016. SOUVENIR evokes a great emotional range, from riotous laughs to poignant moments that touch upon the importance of following one’s passions and dreams.

Jane’s special theatre event includes pre show drinks (2 glasses of wine per person) and a post-show talk — “Anybody Can Sing… And It’s Good for Your Health” — by the play’s voice coach TJ Taylor, head of musical theatre at Sing’Theatre academy and also a voice teacher at Lasalle College of the Arts, and by Grace Low, a multi-instrumentalist and a board-certified music therapist at Singapore General Hospital. In this interactive theatre experience, meet Kunalan, an Indian man who grew up in a Chinatown shophouse during the 1960s and 1970s.

Trace the story of his evolving friendship with Ting Ting, his landlady’s feisty daughter, as well as his relationship with her Cantonese caregiver, Fong Cheh, a majie who became a surrogate mother to him during his growing up years.

Literally follow Kunalan through the streets of Kreta Ayer and become immersed in this story of friendship and familial ties. As his memories come to life in this roving theatre performance, be treated to an array of interesting adventures in the nooks and crannies scattered across the neighbourhood, and delve into its cultural and spiritual nuances.

Come to the Cabaret, Ol' Chum!

Come to the Cabaret, Ol' Chum!

In the 1972 film version of the musical first performed on Broadway in 1966, Liza Minelli belted out, "What good is sitting alone in your room? Come hear the music play. Come to the cabaret old chum...life is a Cabaret!" Her role as Sally Bowles in Cabaret made Minelli a superstar.

Definitely don't stay home on the evening of Friday May 11, come and join me for a particularly fun and uplifting production of the iconic "Cabaret" in the intimate KC theatre, Singapore's own little version of the Kit Kat Klub.

Set in pre-WWII Berlin, this love triangle — which revolves around the star of the show, American cabaret singer Sally Bowles — plays out against the rise of the Nazi party and the collapse of the Weimar Republic.

The musical is a production of the Stage Club. Founded in 1945, it's Singapore's oldest theatre company and one that prides itself on its ability to deliver the best of English language theatre — which it regularly does.

Preceded by a glass — or two! — of wine and an introduction to this wonderful theatre company, we will also meet the play's director and cast after the show.

And what a show it will be ol' chum, so come to the Cabaret.

Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by London's National Theatre: A Special Theatre Event

In Singapore for the first time, the National Theatre stages its acclaimed production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, winner of five Tony Awards and seven Olivier Awards, including Best Play, Best Director and Best Design.

It is a “triumphant” (Sunday Telegraph) adaptation by two-time Olivier Award-winning playwright Simon Stephens who brings Mark Haddon’s internationally best-selling novel to life on stage. Fifteen-year-old Christopher Boone has an extraordinary brain, is exceptional at math, but ill-equipped to interpret everyday life.

When Christopher falls under suspicion for killing his neighbour’s dog, his detective work to identify the true culprit takes him on a frightening journey that upturns his world. The Jane’s SG Tours Experience — Singapore Repertory Theatre has reserved a limited number of Category 1 seats especially for guests of Jane’s SG Tours.

Join Jane before the show for a welcome glass of bubbly and an exclusive meet-and-greet with Resident Director Kim Pearce, who will be sharing her experience touring with this international smash-hit production.

Guests will also hear from a special guest speaker about autism. Please note the $160 ticket price includes the glass of wine plus the SISTIC fee.

AGE ADVISORY: Recommended for 11 years and above. There is some strong language in this production, as there is in the book on which this play is based; this occurs at the very beginning and infrequently throughout the show.

Please note there is a NO REFUND policy for this event unless it is cancelled by the theatre.
