This walk will weave in visits to the diverse houses of worship in South Bridge Rd, one of Singapore’s “harmony” streets, also home to goldsmiths, herbalists & more. Plus wend its way through the heart of Chinatown to see old shophouses, a former Cantonese opera theatre, a traditional wet market and the famous Buddha Tooth temple.
You'll hear the sad tales of Sago Lane, the tough life of Singapore's hard working coolies, and find out about early Singapore's"underbelly" - secret societies, houses of ill repute and opium dens.
After our last stop at the City Gallery - where you will learn about our city planning, past present & future - your guide will drop you off at the ever popular Maxwell Food Centre for discoveries of the edible variety !
Small Group Walking Tours have a maximum of 10 participants but also need a minimum number of 7 to go ahead; if we don't have enough people we will inform those who have registered (& refund their payment) by the evening before at the very latest. But we hope they will always run!!
Please note that the cost of these tours is a little higher as we are keeping the number small. The quality will be however very high; see comments below from our last one at the end of January which was a prototype for this new series:
"I would like to thank you for the tour yesterday, it’s been a wonderful morning! Your guide is amazing and so expert about history".
"I just wanted to let you know that my aunt had a brilliant time yesterday. She couldn't say enough about the tour and how great your guide was. Thanks so much! I will certainly recommend you".
"Your guide was WONDERFUL! We all enjoyed her. I'm looking forward to the next tour."
