New Year, New Beginnings

Home > Blog > New Year, New Beginnings

Each new year a lot of us, myself included, make resolutions, many of which are broken within days! So this new year in Singapore I have decided not to make any resolutions at all, not least as it is very difficult to plan ahead—well that’s my excuse, at least.

That does not mean however that I won’t do some planning for myself, my family, and for my business.

It goes without saying that 2020 was a terrible year for tourism throughout the world & Singapore has of course suffered greatly because we so rely on visitors from all over the globe coming to our small, but perfectly formed island.

The Singapore Tourism Board, along with small enterprises like ours, have been trying to be as creative as possible given the limitations imposed by servicing only domestic tourism. Coast-to-Coast means a great deal in a large country, but here the attractions of getting from, say, Jurong to Punggol somewhat pale in comparison.

Nonetheless I have walked the Coast-to-Coast trail and I’m now very much looking forward to the Rail Corridor being almost completely finished later this year. Plus I’m looking further ahead to the Round the Island walking circuit.

I regard myself as pretty knowledgeable about Singapore having been based here for over 21 years, being a docent (volunteer guide) at three of the museums, and an official tour guide for several years now. But, I find that each time I go on a walk I discover something new about our Little Red Dot that makes it unfailingly interesting.

So although I miss travelling as much as anyone, I am eternally grateful to reside in a beautiful, well-managed country richly layered in terms of its heritage and culture.

Curiosity may have killed the cat, but for human beings it is a mind expanding attribute!

So my resolution for you, and myself (even though I wasn’t going to to do it), is to be curious, be bold, get out there and discover/rediscover Singapore.

Cheers to 2021.
